First public consultation event on new Lee Valley Ice Centre to take place this weekend

The first of a number of public consultation events on the proposed new twin rink Lee Valley Ice Centre will be held this Saturday at Millfields Park Fun Day.

The Fun Day has a range of sports and activities for the whole family. Attendees will have the opportunity to find out more about the proposals for a new ice centre, ask questions and share their thoughts on the plans.

Event: Access to Sport Millfields Fun Day

Date and time: Saturday 20 July, 12.00 - 17.00

Address: Millfields Park North Side, Casimir Road, Clapton E5 9NX

The event is the first of a number of opportunities over the summer for local residents, people who use the current ice centre and members of the community to drop in and learn more about the plans.

The plans for a brand-new facility to replace the current ice centre, which is now 34 years old and coming to the end of its operational life, were unveiled last month.

The new twin rink centre would provide an expanded offer, doubling the amount of ice and provide new facilities including a café, gym, dance studio and community spaces for everyone to enjoy. The sustainable design would also enhance the surrounding areas and provide a gateway to Leyton Marsh for walkers, runners and cyclists.

Upcoming consultation events

Following this Saturday, the next opportunity to have your say on the proposals will be on Sunday 4 August when the plans will be on display at the Waltham Forest Mela , taking place at Leyton Jubilee Park.

The display will then move on to Chingfest on Saturday 31 August at Ridgeway Park.

In addition to these opportunities to see a display about the proposals and chat through them, members of the public can drop into Lee Valley Ice Centre itself to see visuals of the new proposals throughout the summer. See more information on the ‘ About the project ’ page.

Have your say on the website

Hundreds of people have already given their views on the new proposals via the website icecentreredevelopment.com . The consultation will close on Sunday 1 September.
